Biographical History

Episcopal minister, principal of the Holy Communion Church Institute (Charleston, S.C.), and resident of Summerville, S.C. Gadsden served as principal of the Institute (later known as the Porter Military Academy) from its founding in 1867 to 1885. He was the son of Rev. Philip Gadsden (1798-1870). John Gadsden married Julia Emma Boyle, and his son was John Blacklock Gadsden.
