Biographical History

Missionary and sports evangelist; born Bud Stanley Schaeffer on May 13, 1927; joined Navy Reserves and traveled with a Navy basketball team; graduated from Wheaton College, 1950; played professional basketball with Boston Whirlwinds; traveled to the Orient on the first Youth for Christ sponsored basketball team, 1952; coordinated Venture for Victory basketball teams, camp work, and sports clinics in the Philippines, 1955-1967; coached the Free Chinese Olympic Basketball team, 1956; returned to US to direct new division of Overseas Crusades known as Sports Ambassadors, 1967-1970; inducted into the Indiana Sports Hall of Fame, 1970; moved to Australia to establish an evangelistic sports program, 1973-1976; returned to the US and Sports Ambassadors, 1976- ; married Alice Marie Brown, 1951 and had four children.
