Biographical History
Ernest Kilburn Scott (1868-1941), was born in Leeds and educated at the Yorkshire College, later the University of Leeds. He worked in the family textile machine business, R. Kilburn and Sons, and then for a number of engineering companies. He also lectured on engineering, including an appointment, in 1904, in charge of the electrical engineering department at the University of Sydney. He was the author of a number of articles on scientific subjects and published monographs on the engineer, Matthew Murray, and Augustin Le Prince, the pioneer of cinematography. Though incidental to his scientific career, he is now more widely known for having introduced the breed of Samoyed dog to Britain, following a visit to Northern Russia in 1889.
