Biographical History

Soldier, engineer

First enlisted in 1861, promoted to First Sergeant but wounded. Raised Company C, 8th Florida and mustered in as a Captain. Wounded at Sharpsburg and again at Fredericksburg in 1862. He was promoted to Colonel on April 30, 1863. In temporary command at Gettysburg he lead the Florida Brigade on its retreat through Virginia. He replaced the injured General Perry in the.

Wilderness where General Finegan was transferred. In 1865 he was put in command but not appointed as general. He was at the surrender at Appomattox on April, 9, 1865. After the war he was appointed as the Florida Adjutant general in the 1880's and served as the private secretary for Governors Mitchell and Bloxham. He was a civil engineer and the cashier for the Florida State Hospital at Chattahoochee.
