Biographical History
Arthur Younger Ford, a graduate of Brown University, was the seventh president of the University of Louisville. He was the University's first full-time president from 1914 until his death in 1926. Among Ford's accomplishments as president were acquiring Belknap Campus and securing the Louisville City Hospital as a teaching clinic for the Medical Department. Prior to his work at the University of Louisville he was employed as a journalist, first for the Kentucky Inquirer (1884-1889), and then as managing editor of the Courier-Journal (1890-1907). In 1904 Ford campaigned for the presentation of a Kentucky exhibit at the Louisiana Purchase Exhibition (St. Louis World's Fair). He served as president of the Kentucky delegation to that event. In 1906 Ford was elected treasurer of the Fidelity & Columbia Trust Company.
