Biographical History
Christ Lutheran was organized in the fall of 1914 under the name Scandinavian Lutheran. The Ladies’ Aid was started on September 8, 1914. Rev. Skindlov, who was pastor in Bonners Ferry and Sandpoint, came once a month to hold worship services in homes.
From 1915-1924 the Scandinavian Lutherans held their worship services in various churches. In 1922 an old store was purchased for $600. After two years, on September 11, 1924, the 10th anniversary was celebrated in the remodeled facility. About the same time the transition from Norwegian to English took place and the name of the church was changed to First Lutheran.
In the early 1950s the church became self-supporting. Up until that time it received help from Home Missions. A new church was dedicated on April 15, 1962 and the old church was sold. The name was changed to Christ Lutheran in 1969, and on June 8 of that year the final sanctuary addition was completed.
