Biographical History
A native Virginian, Robb moved to New Orleans, La. in 1847, where he was a banker and railroad executive. He served as president of the New Orleans Gas Light and Banking Company, 1842-1856. He was also president of the New Orleans, Jackson, and Great Northern Railroad and of the Bank of James Robb.
Railroad and banking tycoon, art collector; active in New Orleans in the mid-nineteenth century.
Robb collected European and American art. Much of his collection was sold in 1859; some works from his collection are in the New Orleans Museum of Art.
