Neilson, Robert Hude, 1882-1940.

Lawyer and active philanthropist, Robert Hude Neilson was born in New Brunswick, N.J. on June 11, 1882. He attended Rutgers Preparatory School and Rutgers University, graduating with an A.B. Degree in 1903. Neilson received his LL.B. Degree from the Harvard Law School in 1906. His legal career began with the New York firm of Cravath, Henderson and de Gerdorff, where he became a partner in 1913. In 1922 he founded the firm of Wickes & Neilson, later Wickes, Neilson and Riddell. Neilson served as a trustee of the Public Education Association and of the Home for Old Men and Aged Couples. He was also President of the Board of Directors of Haarlem House and Director of the Legal Aid Society, both of which are located in New York, N.Y. An active alumnus of Rutgers, Neilson was at various times president of the Class of 1903 as well as class correspondent for the Rutgers Alumni Monthly. In January, 1906 he was appointed life member of the Board of Trustees of Rutgers University, serving until his death on July 16, 1940.
