The Graduate History Society was organized as the Graduate History Club in 1952. Membership was open to all History Department graduate students and faculty members. The stated purpose was "to stimulate intellectual and social fellowship among history students at the University and to build up an esprit de corps that shall bind them together in their professional careers."
