Biographical History

Members of the Shelby family of Fayette County, Ky. were descendants of Isaac Shelby, first governor of Kentucky. They were involved in the military, in business and farming operations, politics and social life. Major Thomas H. Shelby, son of Governor Shelby, was the first man in central Kentucky to ship beef to England. His sons, Isaac P. Shelby (1822-1896) and Thomas H. Shelby, Jr. and other family members continued the family farming enterprises.
