Biographical History

Phillip Deidesheimer was a mining engineer in California, Nevada, and Montana, who developed and popularized the square set method of timbering mines. Deidesheimer was the first superintendent of the St. Louis Montana Gold and Silver Mining Company. In 1864 he settled in what was to become Philipsburg, Montana, named in his honor.
