Biographical History
Partner in a soap and candle making concern in Somerville (then part of Bridgewater Township), Somerset County, New Jesery; conducted business as Wyckoff, Rowen & Co. (in partnership with Peter V. Wyckoff and Stephen H. Rowen?), 1835-1838, and as Peter V. Wyckoff & Co. (in partnership with Peter V. Wyckoff), 1838-1839; acquired full interest in the business (or, rather, its remaining outstanding accounts?) from Peter V. Wyckoff in June 1839. Possibly corresponds to the John M. Wyckoff (1787-1873) buried in the Hillsborough Reformed Dutch Churchyard, listed on another stone there as the father of a Peter V. Wyckoff (who died 1839 and hence is not the partner, as his account in the ledger continues beyond this date). In The Wyckoff Family in America, this same individual is listed as John Van Middlesworth Wyckoff, father of a Peter Voorhees Wyckoff (1818-1839) and father and grandfather of persons named Isaac Newton Wyckoff.
