Ozias Humphry (1742-1810) was a miniatures and portrait painter. In 1785 he traveled to Calcutta, where he arrived in August, to work as a miniaturist. The following year, he obtained a commission to paint the nawab of Oudh and his courtiers at Lucknow, but was never paid for that work. Finding the climate difficult and his employment unsatisfactory, he returned to London in 1787. He was elected to the Royal Academy in 1791, and in 1792 he was appointed Portrait Painter in Crayons to the King. In 1797, he began to lose his vision almost completely. He died in London in 1810.
