Biographical History

Johnson Jones Hooper was an author and editor who began his writing career in Charleston, S.C. Hooper then moved to Alabama where he read law and edited several newspapers. In 1852 he established the "Whig" Montgomery Mail and edited it until 1861 when he was elected secretary of the Provisional Confederate Congress.

Hooper also authored "Some Adventures of Capt. Simon Suggs..." (1846) and other humorous stories.
