Biographical History

The Air National Guard was created in 1947, after the National Guard Bureau authorized its creation in 1946. The Guard was housed in facilities located at Jacksonville's Imeson Field until a separate base was constructed in the 1960s. The Guard was originally comprised of four component units: 159th Fighter Squadron; Utility Flight of the 159th; Detachment C, 217th Air Service Group, and 159th Weather Station. The 159th Fighter Squadron was one of only six units in the United States assigned a combat role in Korea. The Air National Guard is commanded by an Assistant Adjutant General for Air.
