Biographical History
Charles M. Heiskell was sent to the Alamo by General Sam Houston along with Bowie and Bonham. Heiskell arrived at the Alamo on January 19, 1836. He fought and died in the Alamo. After his death he was to receive various land grants according to his service to Texas, however a misspelling of his name and the felonious actions of shady land merchant named Jacob de Cordova the Heiskell’s family property was lost and the relatives were never able to receive their land. Also at the Alamo on the list of men who died at the Alamo Charles M. Heiskell’s name appears Haskell. This misspelling is the cause of concern for Roy Heiskell in the letter contained.
