Robert P. Weeks was born in 1915 and has lived in Ann Arbor since his early twenties. Originally a journalist, Weeks later became a professor of English in the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan, where he taught until his retirement. American literature, with an emphasis on Ernest Hemmingway, was his specialty. Weeks also published work on subjects as diverse as automation and King Strang of Beaver Island.

Weeks was active in local Ann Arbor Democratic politics. He ran successfully for the third ward city council seat in 1964 and 1966. While on council, Weeks took an especial interest in such issues as fair housing and employment practices, human rights, city planning, and the need for improved public transportation. At the end of his second term, Weeks was appointed chairperson of the Ann Arbor Housing Commission, serving in this position until June 1970.
