Biographical History
Seth Eastman (1808-1875) was a draftsman, painter, and watercolorist who primarily focused on studies of frontier life and Native Americans. He was the principle illustrator for Henry Rowe Schoolcraft's study of the American Indian, "Historical and Statistical Information Respecting the History, Condition and Prospects of the Indian Tribes of the United States." Horatio B. King was a Taunton, Mass. daguerreotypist who collaborated with Seth Eastman to study Dighton Rock and its markings for Henry Rowe Schoolcraft. Schoolcraft later concluded that the Native American inscriptions on the rock dated from American prehistory.
