Biographical History
Jean Knapp Marsh received her bachelor's degree in 1943 from the State University of New York at Cortland, studied at Jacob's Pillow, University of the Dance in 1944, and received her master's degree from Texas Woman's University in 1946. She taught physical education and was Head of Dance at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. from 1946 to 1947, and went on to teach physical education and dance at Wellesley College in Mass., Towson State College in Md., and the University of Maryland before retiring in 1978. Ms. Marsh was active in physical education organizations at both the state and national level, including the National Association for Physical Education for College Women, the National Association for Physical Education in Higher Education (charter member) and the National Foundation for Physical Education and Recreation. She served on various committees and executive boards of these organizations during her professional career. Ms. Marsh's interest in the creative arts was not limited to dance. She was also an accomplished photographer.
