Biographical History

Joelle Wallach was an accomplished composer and performer of modern classical music. She wrote chamber, orchestral, choral, and solo compositions. She received many awards including the Inter-American Music Award of 1980 for one of her choral works. She was born in New York City, and she grew up in Morocco studying music privately. She attended Juilliard Preparatory School and then attended Sarah Lawrence College and Columbia University, earning a master’s in musical composition. She was the first to earn a doctorate in composition from the Manhattan School of Music. She was a singer, performer, and teacher of music as well.
