Biographical History
Henry Alexander Dyde (1896-1976) graduated from the University of Alberta in 1916, was Alberta's Rhodes Scholar to Oxford in 1919, graduating with his LL.B. in 1923. He was called to the Alberta Bar in 1923 and practised in Edmonton until 1939. From 1939-1945 he served as secretary to the Defence Council for Canada during WWII. From 1945-1970 he was a member of the Edmonton law firm, Milner, Steer, Dyde, Poirier, Maitland and Layton, and a sessional lecturer in law at the University of Alberta. Mr. Dyde received various honours during the lifetime including the Military Cross (1917), the Order of the British Empire (1948), and an honourary LLD from the University of Alberta. He also lent assistance to the establishment of the Edmonton Symphony Society and donated land for the University of Alberta Botanic Garden.
