Biographical History
Westerners Foundation begun (1958) under auspices of College of the Pacific (Stockton, Calif.) and founding Corral of Westerners fraternal history organization (Chicago, Ill.) Philip A. Danielson of Chicago, Robert E. Burns, Leland D. Case and Reginald R. Stuart of COP were instrumental in establishing Foundation. Entity grew out of need to provide repository for book royalties from "This is the West," essays written by members of Westerners. Foundation planned to publish more books. Foundation did obtain literary rights to works of cowboy poet, Badger Clark, and published his "Sun in the Saddle" in 1962 and "Buckskin Bulletin" under name "College of the Pacific Press." Westerners Foundation was also created to start and support new Corrals, to provide history scholarships, and, to facilitate workings of and communication between Corrals. After 1970 most programs of Westerners Foundation were carried on separately by Pacific Center for Western Studies at University of the Pacific or by Westerners International (Chicago, Ill.).
