Biographical History

The University of Texas at San Antonio Music Department was established in 1975, one year after music courses were added to the University's curriculum. It was known as the Division of Music under various colleges from 1975-2002, when it was renamed the Department of Music (or Music Department) under the College of Liberal and Fine Arts. As of 2009, the Music Department offers Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees. Additionally, the department hosts frequent events throughout the year, including concerts and recitals of faculty and staff, as well as the annual Madrigal Dinner.

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) began offering music courses in 1974, as part of the College of Fine and Applied Arts. Seven graduate-level classes were offered in the 1974-1975 school year: Foundation of Music Education, Trends in Music Education, Advanced Conducting, Advanced Choral Techniques, Survey of Music Literature: 1400-1750, Twentieth Century Music Literature, and Special Problems.

The Music Department was established in 1975 as the Division of Music. The Division of Music remained under the College of Fine and Applied Arts until the college's dissolution in 1982, at which point it became a division of the College of Fine Arts and Humanities. When the College of Fine Arts and Humanities dissolved in 2000, the Division of Music became part of the College of Liberal and Fine Arts. In 2002, it was renamed the Department of Music (or Music Department). It remains the Music Department as of 2009.

As of 2009, the Music Department offers both graduate and undergraduate courses, offering Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees.

The Music Department hosts frequent events, including concerts and recitals of faculty and staff, as well as the annual Madrigal Dinner.
