Edward Harry William Meyerstein was an English scholar, author, and man of letters. He was born in London and educated at Magdalen College, Cambridge. He worked in the Department of Manuscripts in the British Museum, and served in World War I. After the war he turned to writing full-time, producing poetry, translations, plays, fiction, music criticism, and biography; he was perhaps best known for his life of Thomas Chatterton. Elements of his personal life were sometimes controversial and uncomplimentary, but he knew most of the notable scholars and literary figures of his day, and made several important bequests.

Edward Myerstein, a minor British poet and novelist, was educated at Harrow and Oxford. He worked as an assistant in the Department of Manuscripts at the British Museum and he published 15 volumes of poetry, five novels, two plays, and two biographies.
Meyerstein was born on Aug. 11, 1889 in Hampstead, London, England; attended Harrow and Magdalen College, Oxford; asst. in the British Museum Dept. of Manuscripts; wrote poetry, novels, plays, short stories, and non-fiction; also became a music critic and pianist; published works include The door (1911), Life of Thomas Chatterton (1930), Joshua Slade (1938), Robin Wastraw (1951), and Phoebe Thirsk (1953); he died on Sept. 12, 1952.
