Biographical History
St. John’s Lutheran church was organized on November 30, 1895. The new congregation began worship services in the First Lutheran Church. The first services, as well as confirmation lessons, were conducted in Swedish and English. The use of Swedish was discontinued during World War I. In 1904, the congregation built its first church and parsonage on Eleventh and Logan Streets. In January of 1948 the expanding congregation decided to make plans for a larger building, and on Easter Sunday, 1950, they worshipped for the first time in their present sanctuary. Four sons of the congregation have become Lutheran pastors.
