Physician, writer, editor, government official, and educator, of Washington, D.C.
Tobias Watkins was born in Maryland and educated at St. Johns in Annapolis. He graduated from the Philadelphia Medical College in 1802. From 1812 to 1815 he was a U.S. Army surgeon. From 1818 to 1821 Watkins was Assistant Surgeon General. He died in Washington, D.C.
