Platt Cline was born on February 7, 1911 in Mancos, Colorado. He spent most of his youth in Mancos with the exception of attending the New Mexico Military Institute and the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Dr. Cline 's interest in journalism began as a teenager, when he began writing articles for the Mancos newspaper and later for other small Colorado weeklies. During the 1930s, Dr. Cline was editor of the CCC camp newspaper as well a museum worker at Mesa Verde. In 1936 he began to manage a small newspaper in Norwood, Colorado. In 1938 he moved to Flagstaff with his wife Barbara and his two-year-old son Robert. Dr. Cline immediately found employment with the local Flagstaff paper, then called The Coconino Sun .

In 1941 Mr. Cline moved to Holbrook, and managed the local paper. After the war he moved back to Flagstaff and went on to become managing editor, publisher and president of the Arizona Daily Sun, which he helped found in 1946 as the successor of the Coconino Sun .

After his retirement in 1976 Dr. Cline devoted his time to writing books about Flagstaff: Mountain Town and They Came to the Mountain about Flagstaff and Mountain Campus and The View From Mountain Campus about Northern Arizona University.
