Biographical History
Biographical Note: Rufus Isaacs was a mathematician and the creator of a field of mathematics called differential games.
He was born in New York city in 1914, did undergraduate work at M.I.T., and earned his Ph. D. at Columbia. Between 1947 and 1967, Isaacs held posts with the aircraft industry, the Rand Corporation, the Institute for Defense Analyses, and the Center for Naval Analyses. Isaacs was a professor of applied mathematics, 1967-1977, at The Johns Hopkins University. In 1963, Isaacs published "Differential Games" and was awarded the Lanchester Prize in 1965. He addressed many national and international meetings for mathematicians, and he was the author of many papers on pure and applied mathematics. Rufus Isaacs died in 1977.
