Biographical History
Clyde Davis Eddleman (1902-1992) was born in Orange, Texas. From West Point, he commissioned in the infantry in 1924. He graduated from the Command and General Staff School in 1938 and the Army War College in 1955. From November 1941 to January 1943, he served as chief of the training division, then assistant chief of staff of Third Army. He then was deputy chief of staff of Sixth Army until December 1945. His postwar assignments included commanding general of 4th Infantry Division, May 1954 to October 1955, commandant of the Army War College, May to October 1955, and deputy chief of staff for plans, then deputy chief of staff for military operations, U.S. Army, from October 1955 to July 1958. He served as commanding general of Seventh Army, from July 1958 to March 1959. In the following month, he became commander in chief of the U.S. Army in Europe. In November 1960, the Army appointed him vice chief of staff of the U.S. Army, a position he held until his retirement in March 1962. His decorations include two Distinguished Service Medals, the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, and Bronze Star.
Eddleman was born in Orange, Texas in 1902. He earned the Silver and Bronze Stars in combat in the Philippines during World War II. After the war, he held posts such as Deputy Chief of Staff for Military Operations and Commander of US Army Forces in Europe. He died in 1992.
