Biographical History

William Henry Streeper (1837-1930) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Wilkinson Streeper and Matilda Wells. In 1844 the family moved to Saint Louis, Missouri where William worked, lighting the lamps in the city. They arrived at Salt Lake City, Utah in 1851 and William was employed hauling wood. At the age of 23, he became a mail carrier for the Brigham Young Express Company. He was later hired by Howard Egan (1815-1878) as a Pony Express rider. He rode from 1860 to 1861 and his route was in Nevada, from Diamond Springs to Smith Creek. In 1867 he married Mary Amelia Richards and they settled in Saint Joseph, Nevada as part of the Muddy Mission. After their home was burned down they moved to Centerville, Utah where William engaged in farming, served as a Justice of the Peace, was a school trustee, and was on the Board of Directors of the Deseret Agricultural and Manufacturing Society. He passed away at the age of 93.
