Biographical History
Composer, poet, and novelist, Burt taught music at Princeton University and the Westminster Choir College before becoming a writer full-time.
The title is derived from the elegaic poem by John Milton. Composed 1952. First performance Princeton, New Jersey, 16 January 1954, Nicholas Harsányi conductor. Dedicated to Henry A. Page III.--Cf. Fleisher Collection.
Son of Maxwell Struthers Burt; poet and member of Princeton University's music department.
