Biographical History
George E. Phillies was born on May 15, 1886 in Stimanga, Corinthia, Greece, and emigrated to the United States in 1903. He was cofounder of the Greek Community in Buffalo, New York in 1907. He graduated from the University of Buffalo law school in 1915, and in 1916 he was the organizer and first President of the Greek-American Republican Club. From 1926 to 1931, Phillies served as Supreme Governor, Supreme Vice President and Supreme President of the Greek-American fraternity, Ahepa. He was a member of the National Executive Board, Greek War Relief Association, 1940 to 1950, and he served as organizer and chairman of the Public Relations Committee of the Justice for Greece Committee, 1945 to 1950. From 1954 to 1960 he served as chairman of the Public Relations Committee, Justice for Cyprus Committee. George E. Phillies died in Buffalo, New York on November 27, 1971.
