Biographical History

Hamlet Clark was an amateur entomologist and English cleric interested in natural history.

Clark became an authority on beetles (Coleoptera), especially the Chrysomelidae, Dytiscidae, Gyrinidae, Haliplidae, and Noteridae. From 1842 until 1867 he published 39 papers in which he described 71 genera and 709 species.

John Van Voorst, 1804-98, was a publisher with premises in Paternoster Row, London, 1833-86, who published many works on natural history.
