Chapin-Edson Congo Expedition (1930-1931)

Chapin's third visit to the Belgian Congo went from June 1930 through May 1931. He travelled via Brussels. Earlier expeditions were in 1909 and 1914. The purpose of this expedition was to collect material for a habitat group of birds of the equatorial forests of the Congo River area (then called Lukolela, Belgian Congo, today Zaire area), and to make other zoological collections. The habitat group was a gift of the late Mrs. Dwight Arven Jones. Chapin returned to the Congo in 1937 on the Congo-Peacock expedition.
