Biographical History
The Committee of Correspondence was created in 1721 by an act of the South Carolina General Assembly. The same act also provided for the hiring of an agent to represent South Carolina interests to British authorities including the British Board of Trade and Plantations, the British Treasury, and Parliament. Charles Garth was the Committee's provincial agent in London, England prior to the American Revolution.
