Biographical History
Frederick H. Burr served as engineer under Lieutenant John Mullan on Isaac Stevens's survey expeditions in Montana beginning in 1853. Following a survey expedition with Mullan to Salt Lake City, Burr brought 400 head of cattle and settled in the Bitterroot River Valley area in 1856, married a sister of Granville Stuart's wife Aubony, a Shoshoni, and in later years became sheriff of Deer Lodge County, Montana.
