Biographical History

Two families of Concord, Mass. Dr. Josiah Bartlett (Concord physician) & Martha Tilden Bradford of Waltham announced intent to marry, Nov. 1821. Their children: Martha (b. 1824); Gorham (1826); James Walker (1828); Elizabeth B. (1830); author George Bradford (1832); Samuel Ripley (1837); Annie Keyes (1840); Edward Jarvis (1842); & (David) Bradford. Dr. Josiah's son Edward Jarvis ("Ned") served in Civil War, returned to Concord, m. Sarah Flagg French in 1873; d. 1914.

(Cont.) Edward Jarvis Bartlett's son William Bradford (1880-1960), medical director of John Hancock Life Insurance Co., 1923-1946, resident of Hartford, Conn., and Concord, m. Ruth Jackson. Ruth Jackson was daughter of Abraham Willard Jackson & Caroline Bradford Bigelow Jackson. A.W. Jackson (1843-1911), native of Me. & Graduate of Colby College and Harvard Divinity School, was Unitarian minister (incl. parishes in Peterboro, N.H., & Santa Barbara, Calif.), teacher at Meadville Theological School.

(Cont.) author of The Immanent God & Deafness and Cheerfulness & of pieces on religion, philosophy, & other topics, Civil War veteran, & for a time a resident of Concord. Wife Caroline Bradford Bigelow Jackson was b. in Livemore, Me., 1872, d. in 1935. Edward Jackson Bartlett, son of William Bradford Bartlett & Ruth Jackson Bartlett was b. 1915 in Hartford. Resident of Concord & later of Carlisle, he m. Joan Motley (1921-1992), worked as cabinetmaker in Concord, d. 1994.
