Biographical History
Edward J. McClernand was a United States (U.S.) Army 2nd lieutenant in the 2nd U.S. Cavalry Regiment.
Brigadier General, U.S. Army. Served with 2nd Cavalry in Montana during the Indian campaigns of the 1870s, in Cuba during the Spanish-American War (1898), and later as Chief of Staff for the Department of the Missouri, headquartered at Omaha, Nebraska. In 1905 he was sent overseas as military attache with the Japanese Army. Promoted to Brigadier General in 1906 and given command of 1st Cavalry. Retired from active duty December 1912.
