Biographical History
Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Lawrence D. Egbert joined the U.S. Naval Reserve in April 1918. He completed basic training, both on land and sea, commanded a company, and served as regimental signalman and an instructor in nautical astronomy. Egbert was commissioned as a major in the U.S. Army in June 1943. He trained in language and military government at Harvard University and served as one of the instructional staff members for the Military Government Officers Training Center in England. Egbert worked in the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) during World War II and served as civil affairs officer with the Communications Zone in Cherbourg, France. He then served as deputy G-5 for both the Oise Section and Channel Base Section and as military liaison officer with French Regional Commissioner. Egbert was a member of the executive staff, U.S. chief counsel at the Nuremberg Trials, from September 1945 through 1946, serving in the Briefing and Research Section and International Military Tribunal. Egbert was a research coordinator for the U.S. State Department from 1950-1960.
