Biographical History
The University Religious Association began as the Student Religious Association, a student organization that coordinated religious programs, social services, and holiday services. The Association's key event was the Religion-in-Life Week. Later, the organization was changed to the University Religious Association, an umbrella group for the ministries serving the student body of the University of Florida.
The University Religious Association (formerly Student Religious Association) was an umbrella group for the various ministries serving the student body of the University. Members of the faculty of the Department of Religion served as faculty advisors. Originally, the Student Religious Association was a student organization which coordinated program activities, social services, and religious holiday services. The Association's key event was the Religion-in-Life Week (see Manuscript Collection 33).
Religion-in-Life Week was an annual lecture event sponsored by the University Religious Association (formerly the Student Religious Association) and the Department of Religion "to discuss the questions, problems, and challenges of religious and modern life." Each Religion-in-Life Week was organized around a particular theme and several speakers would be invited. Week events also included films, receptions, seminars, and dormitory student discussions. Religion-in-Life Week was apparently an outgrowth of Religious Emphasis Week.
