Biographical History
American pianist.
Mr. Loesser studied at the Institute of Musical Art with Sigismund Stojowski and Percy Goetschius. He toured extensively as a concert pianist, including tours with Maud Powell, Mischa Elman, and Ernestine Schumann-Heink. In 1926, he became a member of the faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and eventually became Head of the Piano Department there. Mr. Loesser was also an active writer and editor. He edited the program books for the Cleveland Orchestra and wrote two books - Men, women and pianos: a social history and Humor in American song. Mr. Loesser was also a co-founder and first president of the International Piano Library (now the International Piano Archives at Maryland).
