Biographical History

Philip J. Kimball was born on March 5, 1894. He spent most of his professional career as an executive in the Sales Division of the Explosives Dept. of E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company. In 1959 he became a trustee and executive vice president of the Eleutherian Mills-Hagley Foundation, which had been formed to restore the site of the original Du Pont powder yards. Upon the retirement of Luther D. Reed in 1962, Kimball was named the Foundation's second General Director, while retaining his other offices. His principal duties involved the acquisition of the Eleutherian Mills property from the Crowninshield estate and the construction of the Eleutherian Mills Historical Library. Kimball retired in July 1966 and died nine years later.
