Biographical History
Historian, educator, author. Awarded B.A. by Dakota Wesleyan University, M.A. by Mankato State University, Ph. D. by Texas Tech University (1973). Taught at Texas Lutheran College (1973-1985). Became professor of history at Texas Tech University in 1985. Author or co-author of five books including "Texas woolybacks: the range sheep and goat industry" (1982), "Lubbock and the South Plains: an illustrated history" (1989), and "Pecos Bill" (1989).
Dr. Paul Carlson is a professor of History at Texas Tech University. He received his Ph.D. from Texas Tech, taught at Texas Lutheran for a time and returned to Texas Tech in the 1980s to teach. He is the author of Empire Builder in the Texas Panhandle: William Henry Bush, William R. Shafter, Texas Woollybacks, and The Plains Indians . His interest in history ranges from military, ranching, frontier life, and Native Americans in the Western U.S. He is a fellow of the Texas State Historical Association.
