Biographical History
Friends of the Earth is an environmental organization, established in 1969 by David Brower. The Northwest office began in April, 1970, with Dale Jones as Northwest representative. The purpose of FOE is to inform the public about environmental issues and to take "direct action to restore, conserve, and promote rational use of the earth's natural resources." During the years primarily documented by these records, the Northwest Office was headed by David Ortman, followed by Shawn Cantrell, 1997-2003.
