Biographical History

Frederick "Fritz" Steinbrecher was born in 1888 and received a B.Phil from the University of Chicago in 1913. He played for the University baseball team during its first trip to Japan in 1910.

Between 1910 and 1936, the University of Chicago and Waseda University baseball teams hosted each other at five year intervals. These games were extremely popular in Japan, with more than 20,000 spectators attending matches at Waseda in 1930. In 2008 Waseda invited Chicago to play a series of games in Hiroshima, Osaka, and Tokyo, renewing the tradition as part of their 125th anniversary celebrations.
