Adolph D. Schmidt was born about 1887 to Leopold and Johanna Schmidt of Olympia, WA. Leopold and his brother, founded the Olympic Brewing Company in 1896 as Capital Brewing Co. Adolph and his brothers participated in the management of the brewery and eventually took over management from their father in his later years. Adolph also owned hotels in the area. He was appointed to the Canal Commission of the State of Washington in 1933 to represent Thurston County, WA for a five year term. Adolph passed away on 20 May 1947 and is buried in Masonic Memorial Park in Thurston County, WA. On 21 Sept. 1977 the Washington State Dept. of Transportation was established. It's creation took over the Highway Dept., Aeronautics Commission, Toll Bridge Authority and the Canal Commission.
