College of Physicians of Philadelphia. Committee on Lectures.

The Committee on Lectures of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia was first appointed in January 1864. It was charged with the oversight of a lecture program in surgical pathology funded as part of the agreement made between the College and Thomas D. Mütter in 1858-1859. The committee was empowered to name each lecturer who would provide a course of at least ten lectures annually for a three-year period. The committee also set the dates of the lectures and reported on the program and financial matters.

The first Mütter lecturer, John H. Packard, was appointed in 1864. In 1871, the nature of the lectureship was changed to allow one course of ten lectures within each three-year period. In 1886, the duties of the Committee on Lectures and oversight of the Mütter Lectures were assumed by the Committee on the Mütter Museum.
