Biographical History
The Oregon Centennial Commission was established by law in 1955. It was made up of a nine member body of Oregon citizens responsible for assisting counties and cities in adopting a plan to represent the resources and attractions of the state in its centennial year, 1959. The Commission was also responsible for organizing the Oregon Centennial Exposition and International Trade Fair. The exposition, and related projects, were aimed at creating historical and/or entertaining events that would draw national attention to Oregon. They were also intended to heighten Oregonians' awareness of their own state's geography, history and economy.
