Biographical History
English actor and dramatist.
English dramatist and songwriter Thomas John Dibdin was the son of songwriter Charles Dibdin and actress Mrs. Davenet. He ran away from an apprenticeship to join a company of travelling players, where he acted, worked as a scene painter, and began writing songs. He returned to London and had a great many plays produced, including comedies, operas, and farces. He was affiliated with theatres such as Covent Garden, Drury Lane, Surrey, and the Haymarket. He had a long period of popularity and prosperity, although his latter days were less successful.
