Biographical History
The Department of Public Safety began around 1939 as the Campus Police, later called the University Police. The "police" units were responsible directly to the President, but since 1980, the Department of Public Safety has reported to the Vice President for Finance and Operations and Treasurer. DPS is responsible for publication #626, SAFETY SCRIPTS.
